The Pledge https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/the-pledge-by-friedrich-durrenmatt-nine.html by Friedrich Durrenmatt is one of The 1,000 Novels Everyone Must Read, adapted by Sean Penn for the big screen, with Jack Nicholson in the leading role, a quite unusual part for the one who has won three Academy Awards

The Old Lady’s Visit or The Visit is an excellent play, with a very unusual, or maybe logical ending: Claire Zachanassian is a rich woman, who comes back to the town of Gullen, the inhabitants have been through some crisis – we would later learn that it was provoked by this visitor – and see in her some female Mesiah…

Or at least an investor; however, Chekhov comes to mind, with his famous gun principle https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/10/tragedian-in-spite-of-himself-by-anton.html a principle emphasizing that every element in a story should be necessary, while irrelevant elements should be removed.

Ergo, we need to pay attention to the coffin brought by Claire Zachanassian, mentioned at her arrival, an item that becomes paramount when she has her speech, in which she says that she wants to give the town one billion (not so much in the age of the trillionaire Musk, but exorbitant back then) on one condition:

That she buys her justice, she has her butler explain that he was a judge, when she brought a paternity suit against Alfred III, the latter had been her lover, and he paid some false witnesses, when she lost the case, the woman left, became a prostitute, gave birth to a girl who died, her life was destroyed in other words

Games People Play https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/games-people-play-by-eric-berne.html is a classic of psychology by Eric Berne, we find in it that one of the most played games is If It Weren’s For You, spouses or partners accuse the other that they stopped them form becoming important, rich, and/or other things

It is pertinent in this case, although the punishment required may be, or is exaggerated, the rich lady wants the man responsible for her shame, and ultimate tragedy to be killed, and she gives the town half a billion, while the other half will be distributed among those who live in Gullen, they refuse at first, only things change

Her opulent offer reminded me of the five thousand that would be given by The Orange Plague, if republicans win the upcoming midterm elections, except we have seen the Confidence we have to have in this eejit https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/confidence-man-making-of-donald-trump.html like the lady in The Visit, he is monstrous

In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin

In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
