The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald is number two on Modern Library’s Best 100 Novels, it is one of The All TIME 100 Novels, also part of The 1,000 Novels Everyone Must Read, it is third on The Greatest Books of All Time site, summing up, you find this chef d’oeuvre not just on any important list, but at the top of it – you find thousands of reviews on magnum opera from the aforementioned and other compilations on my blog https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/08/do-you-have-any-suggestions-how-to-make.html

10 out of 10

We could say that this is the Best Accessible Novel https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/05/great-gatsby-by-scott-f-fitzgerald.html seeing that it is at number one or two on most important sites, and then the ‘competitors’ are difficult to read, think of Ulysses, one masterpiece that I started a few times, but may be never able to finish

Last night, they had on a film channel the adaptation of the chef d’oeuvre, the one with this flamboyant director at the helm, he is not one of my favorites, and the result was somewhat dazzling, but not in a good sense, a waste of thespian talent, though I wonder if Leonardo Di Caprio may have been unsuitable in the leading role

https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/the-kid-stays-in-picture-by-robert-evans.html a very interesting, albeit probably bombastic in parts, book on films is The Kid Stays in The Picture, by Robert Evans, who has started as an actor, then he became a producer, and head of Paramount Pictures, in charge of some Paramount projects

I used paramount the last time in the sense of very important, he was responsible for some of the Best Ten Motion Pictures Ever – the classifications vary, and if you look at the latest BFI Best 100, you will find some names you have not heard of, even if you are a cinephile, I challenge you to see if you know the Number One feature

Robert Evans claims to have discovered Jack Nicholson, a pretty interesting story there, especially if it were true, then he wanted him to lead The Great Gatsby, but could not afford the salary, so he did it with Robert Redford, and it was not successful, though he made https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/chinatown-written-by-robert-towne.html  classics like Chinatown

I see The Great Gatsby as a possible primogenitor of the orange idiot that is turning the free world (and other places) upside down, though there are many differences, the fictional character, for all his flaws, has something that makes readers, if not side with him, at least feel some empathy, at least I think they do

Furthermore, The Great Gatsby had some feelings, maybe he was even in love (I am very cautious with the word, considering https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/09/buddenbrooks-by-thomas-mann-is-one-of.html Thomas Mann and his explanations) whereas this atrocious made up, orange fool seems to be the quintessential psychopath

‘The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function’ this is a quote from Scott F Fitzgerald https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/babylon-revisited-by-scott-f-fitzgerald.html and it is one that I try and remember regularly

Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice written by Larry Tucker and Paul Mazursky, directed by the latter is included on The New York Times’ Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made list, and Variety has published recently its Top 100 Comedies – or else, I have learned about this lately – where this feature has a top spot, as far as I remember it is higher that the 50th spot – speaking of these pages, you have access to my own more than five thousand notes on films from these and other compilations, together with another five thousand reviews on magnum opera from The Greatest Books of All Time and other sites on my blog and You Tube channel https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/do-you-have-any-feedback.html you may even subscribe, if you wish

In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin

In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
