Great Gatsby by Scott F. Fitzgerald, adapted by Baz Luhrmann is number one on some lists of the best books, on Modern Library’s Top 100 Best Novels list it is second, on The Greatest Books of All Time site you find it in third place – although the screen version is far from the original, despite the fact that it has a terrific cast – except for Debicki, I am not a fan – you have thousands of reviews on magnum opera from the aforementioned and other web pages on my blog https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/do-you-have-any-feedback.html

10 out of 10
for the book, 6 out of 10 for the movie
The Great
Gatsby https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/the-great-gatsby-by-scott-f-fitzgerald.html is glorious, that is, if you read
the chef d’oeuvre, the motion picture is quite a disappointment, indeed, we
could even call it a waste, considering that Leonardo DiCaprio, Joel Edgerton, Tobey
Maguire are wonderful thespians
In some
ways, this being a story of excess, we could argue that it made sense to have
Baz Luhrmann do it, and this director is given to pompous spectacles – for
Moulin Rouge it sort of worked, but for The Great Gatsby it did not, not if we
consider what a magnum opus Scott Fitzgrald wrote, and what we see in the
adaptation
There had
been attempts before this last one, and alas, quite unsuccessful, even when
Robert Redord played the leading role of Jay Gatsby – a complex character, part
scoundrel, part romantic idealist – and Robert Evans explains the failure https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/the-kid-stays-in-picture-by-robert-evans.html
In his book
The Kid Stays in The Picture, Robert Evans says that he had wanted to have Jack
Nicholson as The Great Gatsby, but he did not have enough funding, it looks
like the budget was minuscule for the size of the project, Robert Redford was
an iconic artist, though he had had his own dark side, as we learn from another
book
William
Goldman won two Academy Awards for Best Screenplay, for Butch Cassidy and The
Sundance Kid and All The President’s Men, on both he worked with Redford, after
the former, the actor wanted the screenwriter to start a project, only to
abandon it https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/adventures-in-screen-trade-by-william.html you have more in the book
Robert
Redford was quite obnoxious on All The President’s Men, apparently a nightmare
for Goldman, his worst day was in the flat of the actor/producer, but again, read
Adventures in The Screen Trade, it is a fabulous work, especially for the
cinephiles, stories on Brando, Newman, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino and others
The Great
Gatsby reminds me of the Orange Caligula, albeit the former had charm, despite
the company he kept and his more than dubious fortune, activities, while this
leader of the former free world https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/08/reign-of-terror-how-911-era.html is horrendous, unbelievable
They have
had a ‘Great Gatsby themed party’ at his place in Florida, such lack of taste,
common sense, this is a pompous fool, and he still has what, about a third of
Americans still in awe with him, even when he does the exact opposite of what
he promised, like ‘stopping forever wars in the Middle East’, with the awful
war in Iran
