Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann is one of The Bokklubben World Library’s Greatest 100 Books of All Time, the Swedish Academy identified "the great novel Buddenbrooks" as the principal reason for The Nobel Prize awarded to Thomas Mann, it is ranked 88th on The Greatest Books of All Time site, and it is one of my favorites – for more reviews you could visit https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/08/do-you-have-any-suggestions-how-to-make.html

10 out of 10
Thomas Mann
has two masterpieces https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/magic-mountain-by-thomas-mann.html among The 100 Greatest Books, and
one of them is Buddenbrooks, which I seem to have appreciated less, when I
first read it, or more probably, there was something, maybe some crisis which
affected the experience
Buddenbrooks
is so elating, marvelous that I will write at least another note, I have
decided so much happened by now, after about eight hours in the audiobook, that
I have to try and take more pleasure from writing about it, especially referring
to Antonie aka Tony Buddenbrook, my favorite so far, in spite of her
shortcomings
To The
Hermitage https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/to-hermitage-by-malcolm-bradbury-author.html by Malcolm Bradbury purports that
‘characters are deeper, cleverer, nobler, and the plot has more twists,
romantic fulfilment’ ergo fiction of the highest quality is preferable to
reality, and Buddenbrooks, Antonie demonstrate that theorem
This is
writing as I want it, Pure Perfection, I might say ‘classic, maybe
conservative’, for modern, postmodern fiction is somewhat, or absolutely inaccessible
to the under signed – we have a family with a respectable history although they
will decline, this much we know, and we can anticipate, indeed, it is already
happening
Thomas will
take the reins of the business, his brother is more artistically inclined, perhaps
in the sense that he prefers artists, not that he is thus endowed himself, he
did show talent for the English language, when dispatched there, but not much interest
in the affairs of trade, Antonie has a suitor that will play the role of the
villain
Bendix
Grunlich proclaims his fascination for Tony, despite her rejection, even
mockery, she takes a vacation to the Baltic Sea, as a result of this courtship,
and she meets a very fine young man, except he belongs to a different class,
and therefore he is ‘unsuitable’, while Grunlich has a respectable position,
and will be a good match
Tony listens
to her father, and an inherited sense of duty, she marries this fellow, only to
find in a few years that it has all been a lie, a conspiracy, the man had
wanted to fix his debts by using the impeccable image of the Buddenbrooks
family, he borrowed ever more, with higher rates of interest, to the point of bankruptcy
He is a primogenitor
of Donald Trump, without the means that the latter had to deceive more than
what, seventy five million people, and now he has reached an impasse, he claims
to love his wife, then, in fury, he shows he was a Confidence Man…Thomas Mann
has some astounding writing on various themes, perhaps the most important would
be love, or lack thereof https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/08/tristan-by-thomas-mann-one-of-my.html
