The Unnamable by Samuel Beckett is included on some of the most prestigious lists, including The Bokklubben World Library Best 100 Books of All Time, Le Monde’s Best 100 Novels, 1,000 Novels Everyone Must Read, it is ranked 274th on the Greatest Books of All Time site, alas, it is not one of my Top 1,000 Favorites, not even if I go up to 5k I am afraid – you find reviews of magnum opera from the aforementioned and other web pages on my blog https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/do-you-have-any-feedback.html

6 out of 10 on a personal level, though 10 out of 10 elsewhere

I have enjoyed Waiting For Godot https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/04/waiting-for-godot-by-samuel-beckett.html and I even remember seeing it on the stage of The Nottara theater, with a brilliant actor in one of the roles

Notwithstanding that, trying to stay ‘tuned’ to the Trilogy: Molloy, Malone dies and now The Unnamable was a different matter, quite a challenge, and not as prescribed by Flow, the psychology classic that lists the ingredients necessary for Maximum Experience, one is to get out of your comfort zone, but without being overwhelmed

To be In The Zone one must be in control, nothing else matters, there is maximum concentration, it is an autotelic event, you have clear and meaningful goals, time changes – for example a ballerina is performing for one minute, but it feels like more than a day – there is constant and instant feedback, and then there is the challenge

https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/flow-by-mihaly-csikszentmihalyi.html Flow is a life changing book, and I use the formula to see if a book is for me, one has to be between boredom and burnout, and here I have a case where I either cannot get the point, or else I am not challenged, but tedium is the issue

I hope, nay, I am sure, this Goodfella does not study the lines here, and then makes another lengthy comment, attacking me – on the other hand, there are a few others, MAGA and more – because presumably I attach too much importance to myself, the options I have, but then, if not me, who else would bother?

In other words, the limitations of these lines are clear, they are subjective, unprofessional (by the way, why was that pretentious individual reading notes here, when the sophisticated, educated know that they need to look for good critics, not amateurs on Goodreads?) irrelevant, they just expose emotions felt when reading a book

Borges https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/05/the-riddle-of-poetry-by-jorge-luis.html writes about the apple, the taste and the man, there is not taste, unless the man bites the fruit, and in the case of this reader and the volumes he takes, quite often he has an allergy, or simply lost the ability to taste, say Samuel Beckett

Finally, let me quote from According to Mark: ‘the novelist has an infinity of choices, He chooses what is to happen, and in what way he will relate what happens…’ and I take this and apply it to the reader, at least to myself, and say right, but I get to censor, and decide when I am enamored, and when I reject personages https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/according-to-mark-by-penelope-lively.html like in the Borges metaphor, the apple offered by Beckett is outstanding for most people, it is up there in The Top 100, but it does not work here, mea culpa
