Blink https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/blink-power-of-thinking-without.html is the marvelous psychology classic
by Malcolm Gladwell that came to mind in connection with The Checklist, mostly
because they both seem to explain how you can get to fabulous outcomes in ‘the blink
of an eye’, or under one minute
One dazzled
me in The Checklist was the segment regarding airplanes, how it became crucial
in the operating of these flying machines, especially as they became more
complicated: once pilots had to turn on a good number of switches, see that
various systems were working, it was very easy to forget once crucial operation
Ergo, the
checklist came was saving lives, just like in hospitals, I wonder about John
Gottman https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/03/the-seven-principles-of-making-marriage.html who is the author of another
psychology classic, The Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work that is a must
read for couples
John Gottman
is present in Blink, The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, because he was one
of the proofs that we make decisions, form opinions very quickly, mistakes like
the Vincennes downing of a commercial flight with hundreds of passengers on
board are mentioned, but John Gottman is a special case
He was able
to predict with more than ninety percent accuracy, which couples will stay
together, and which will break apart, after listening to only a few minutes of
conversation, he also happens to confirm the ten thousand hours of practice
theory from https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/06/the-malcolm-gladwell-quicklet-bundle-by.html
Outliers is
written by Malcolm Gladwell and I would say it is yet another classic; it demonstrates
how practice, exercising for ten thousand hours over a period of ten years
brings people to the top, provided other conditions are met, and we have the
examples of Amadeus Mozart, Steve Jobs, The Beatles and John Gottman
Furthermore,
whole cultures from the Far East have had this tremendous success based on
their culture, if there is a problem you have to work on it, South Korea was as
poor as any other country, I would say, some decades ago, and now it is a
powerhouse, one of the richest, and that is because of hard work, education
Finally, I
was thinking about thinking – it is an attempt to joke, but in The Economist,
there was this article which argued that we are losing the habit of writing,
and that is what we do when we write – and the scintillating The How of Happiness
