Ion Luca Caragiale https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/vizita-aka-visit-by-ion-luca-caragiale.html was the best writer in this land, until recently, when Mircea Cartarescu entered the stage and maybe now there would be a ‘competition’, some would prefer the latter anyway, seeing as he belongs to the present

 

Nevertheless, looking for our National Treasure on The Greatest Books of All Time site I have not found him, instead, we have at 3954th Rakes of The Old Court by Mateiu Caragiale, and it gets even worse, my favorite intellectual in this realm does not exist, which means that I hate this damn algorithm, that the GOAT uses

The texts selected by Andrei Plesu, and read by him – he is such a gifted performer; indeed, he had thought of becoming an actor, and he is a better thespian than, well, most – are funny and satirical, at one point one of the characters is asked about the weather and she says something like ‘the god damn moon is there’

the last was intended as a sort of joke, but I may be the only one smiling, I keep saying that I do not believe people read any of this, which is as it should be, even if we gather so many likes, the most admired, if that is the word, are those who write very short reviews, on Goodreads, one liners, if that, which tells you something

 

however, it comes down to one of the rules of Infleuence https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/03/influence-psychology-of-persuasion.html this is a classic of Psychology, although it has been used, maybe more, in marketing and sales, both of which want to Influence customers

one of the Principles of Influence is Reciprocity, they tested this in various ways: researchers would send cards to unknown individuals, and thewy would write back, in sales, when they sell a car, they offer some free gadgets, it used to be stereo, some rugs, this ‘gift’ was more than paid back, because they only had this model in stock

 

and it happened that the cost would have to include, metallic paint, special tires, and all sorts of amenities you did not want, but because of reciprocity, you felt you had to pay for…back to Caragiale, this was an excellent, funny read, well, it was the Magister Ludi who read it, and I will finish with ‘hop, zarna, zarna’ which is in there

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
