Sometimes the trouble with a work written a long time ago, about morals, misbehavior, attitudes, perspectives form that time is that, albeit interesting to know what humans did centuries, or decades ago, it often feels as if this is not just passé, but irrelevant for the present, or worse, there is a trend (or maybe not) which has readers looking for faults, politically incorrect pronouncements and hence stigmatizing various artists, without realizing that we all be seen as savages, maybe just 40 years from now

 

We kill and torture billions of animals to feed our insatiable appetites and the future is bleak, as more countries move from the developing level to advanced, more billions of earthlings will want to consume pigs and meat, so the genocide is set not just to continue, but the massacre will reach ever more gruesome, disgusting propositions, until there will be little land left to grow the feed for livestock, and/or much better, we will consume this product from cells grown in the labs, however opaque and retrograde some will be…Italy has just moved to ban those cells, to protect ‘traditional producers’ or something like that…I mean they ban it, but on the name of what ‘noble cause’ I am not sure…

Ion Luca Caragiale was not just a phenomenal playwright http://realini.blogspot.com/2014/05/o-noapte-furtunoasa-by-ion-luca.html but also prescient, in his rendition of The Visit, he anticipates some of what happens now, my guess is that he exaggerated for artistic purposes some of what surely had been his experience in one place or another – I am thinking of another King of Comedy, Kingsley Amis and his take on writers, who do not ‘invent other worlds, they just edit the experiences they have had’

 

This was not a quote, but I hope there were words to that effect, just as he mentions in his Memoirs http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/12/memoirs-by-kingsley-amis-author-of-take.html something said by Anthony Powell, to the effect of ‘maybe in vino veritas, but surely truth in writing’…Anthony Powell is yet another Magister Ludi, whose outstanding, august, hilarious, august work is on the list of to read again, and as soon as possible, the twelve volumes of his roman fleuve are an exquisite, exhilarating delight

A Dance to The Music of Time http://realini.blogspot.com/2014/04/books-do-furnish-room-by-anthony-powell.html is one of the best chef d’oeuvres you could read, and as someone said, I envy you for the pleasure awaiting, although I know that the volumes will be in my hands again, in the kindle, with a different background…some years back, I used to read in the Jacuzzi at the Downtown Club…they have closed it now

 

In The Visit, Caragiale anticipates the mayhem, chaos, violence, destruction that is associated (I tie them together) with children these days (not all, clearly, there are still a few angelic figures out there, hidden very well from View) who have ‘helicopter’ and other kinds of parents, irresponsible, failed, in that they allow their offspring…well, anything and everything, so that we now have spoiled brats, future criminals of inept, rude, aggressive adults, who will act like Trump, as if they deserve all that they want

Serdaris was saying on the Maher show that children act now as animals who no longer have any predators, and the results can be, and are catastrophic - one story told in his lectures at Harvard by Professor Tal-Ben Shahar, who has become the most popular in the history of that Ivy League Institution, comes to mind…there was this young man who had had a privileged life, with excellent academic results, invited to work at the White House, where he has to deal with a major scandal and he commits suicide, unable to cope  http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/07/positive-psychology-on-youtube-by.html

 

Thus, Professor Tal-Ben Shahar keeps saying ‘learn to fail, or fail to learn’ and we also have Happiness Activity No 6: Developing Strategies for Coping-practicing ways to endure or surmount hardship or trauma  http://realini.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-how-of-happiness-by-sonja.html explained in the How of Happiness by marvelous Sonja Lyubomirsky and we need those with children (mis)behaving like pirates, getting ever more aggressive and growing up to become hostile, spoiled, entitled, unbearable, Trump-like adults, that we see roaming around (not all, but still, enough to bring pandemonium about)

This is biased and way too critical, absurd on some levels, it is also descriptive of what I see around, therefore, what you observe in your place could be extremely different (also, I allow this to pass here, knowing full well that ‘you’ could well be an abstraction, representing one possible reader to reach this far, let throw caution and reality out the window and say two humans) but here, man, this is crazy, they burn down the garbage places (just like in Paris where they want to retire at 62 instead of 64, no matter how broke the state is, and the fact that pension age was so low at the time when people only lived for a short time on the state, now they except decades and decades of security provided by the young, and this is said by a fellow that is 59, and has retired on dividends [and at times just loans] from the ripe age of 37, granted, he did work on two houses, as a foreman, painter of walls and such, only as the spouse underlines and shouts frequently, this is still ‘a loser, never more than a guide, a lazy bum, who does not cut down the foliage in the garden, etcetera) destroy and act like hooligans.

 

It is evidently the parents’ guilt and shame – one said in the email messages that used to pollute my Serenity Now (as in the scream from Frank Constanza, from Seinfeld) until I just opted out of this Hades, that she lets her child run wild (not in those Words) in the gated community, because being gated there is no need for a nanny (we, the gullible inhabitants would need to care for that, presumably) and thus those little people shout, curse, pee wherever, some even shit, literally and figuratively, when you ask them to go somewhere else (Everything Everywhere, All At Once, but far from here) they appear to get ready to pummel you, they anyway insult and show they have the same character as little Putin…so you go and do this: http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/02/unique-in-world.html?q=unique+in+the+world
