I have read a few books by Joseph Conrad, who was one of the greatest authors https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/under-western-eyes-by-joseph-conrad.html of all time, it is even more amazing that English was his third language, and yet, he is acclaimed for four, or five oeuvres on the lists of best works

 

That notwithstanding, I did have some mixed encounters, if Heart of Darkness was impressive and pleased even the under signed, Lord Jim was not a novel that fits my profile for some reason, and now this: Nostromo falls by the wayside, so here you have my take on it, the rest is just not worthwhile, or to quote Hamlet

It is rather awkward, because I remember the first time I got engaged with Nostromo, not to the point where I sat down to write something about it, not that history or anything loses from this, most likely, the contrary is true, but still, I went along with it, while the latest attempt could be qualified as a failure

There are some circumstances, if not attenuating, as they have it in court, such as the fact that they do have a ‘revolution’ in Latin America, South America in the present, I was thinking about it, and I dislike it – let me tell you the joke first, about a time when they used to be quite ready to change governments, regimes, caudillos…

 

So here goes: ‘dialogue with a South American – what are you doing? I am having my lunch, and after that? My siesta, and after that? I don’t know, maybe a revolution’, the point being that this was a quite frequent occurrence, in the afternoon, but also, maybe it was not as serious a bunch as say in The Secret Agent
