notwithstanding my admiration for Kingsley Amis, I differ on The Stories of Anton Chekhov https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2024/05/a-country-cottage-by-anton-chekhov.html which are included among The Best 100 Books of All Time in one important version, while they sit at 127 on The Greatest Books of All Time site, and indeed, I have started listening to some of them again, and they are wondrous

 

some of these astounding Short Stories and plays by Chekhov have been adapted for The National Radio – ours, not The Swedish one – and they have the greatest thespian of All Time, George Constatin, in the cast, which means we have a nec plus ultra performance, this combination is the crème de la crème, it does not get better

the world knows about Jack Nicholson, but George Constatin is alas unknown outside our realm, even worse, most of the young do not know him https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/peer-gynt-by-henrik-ibsen-calling.html they may have heard about his son, himself an actor, although nowhere near the status of his father

 

I have almost crashed into the Junior, a few days ago, I was cycling, like I always do, near Herastrau, when I see this electric scooter coming fast, on a bike lane, and disregarding the sign showing the way, and I protested, well, more like shouted with strong disdain or whatever, and got insulted in turn by…the son of Dionysus , so to say

Finally, I am so upset to observe that the Russians have such spectacular, divine luminaries https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/oblomov-by-ivan-goncharov-10-out-of-10.html let me just mention Goncharov here, and yet they have never had leaders that come anywhere close to the stature of say Bulgakov

 

Take Peter The Great- despite the name, he was so cruel, he executed his own son, never mind others, granted, these were times when norms were different, and we had our very own ghoul, one inspired Dracula https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2023/12/dracula-and-other-horror-classics-by.html  the infamous vampire

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
