Kevin Costner https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/05/note-on-dances-with-wolves.html has the leading role of Wyatt Earp, and he is very good, though not on the same level we have admired in Dances With Wolves…I disagree though with the poor ratings, even if this is not a magnum opus, it is a good film

 

One of the greatest thespians ever, Gene Hackman, winner of two Academy Awards, for The French Connection and Unforgiven, plays Earp senior, a very severe father – near the start, we see him riding back home, and finding Wyatt on the way to enlist, and the parent is very upset with this initiative – he has some words to say

He repeats – some of children say one hundred, one says a thousand times – the idea that ‘family is the most important’ and he is on to something Positive Psychology  https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/positivity-by-barbara-fredrickson-life.html has found that family is indeed crucial

 

The happiest people on earth do not share great wealth, but strong, excellent connections with family and friends – Nicholas Earp asks his son why is he trying to maneuver like this, while the parent is absent, and then he announces that he will punish the boy, physically…then he would decide that they move

One their way, the father will have another important advice: ‘after the family, the most important is the law for me; there are men that do all kinds of evil things, they will stop at nothing to get their way, breaking the law- you have to be careful when you meet them, you need to act fast, and shoot to kill’ words to that effect

 

Unforgiven https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2024/09/unforgiven-by-david-webb-peoples-my.html is one of the best movies ever made, probably one of The Top 20 Westerns, and a much better entertainment than Wyatt Earp, Gene Hackman is the bad sheriff there, who will pay for his malefic presence

Wyatt Earp meets with another legend of the Wild West, Doc Holliday aka Dennis Quaid, who is at this stage dying of tuberculosis, and travels with what we would call today a sex worker, Big Nose Kate played by Isabella Rosselinni – I think she is the daughter of Ingrid Bergman and director Rossellini – a friendship is born

 

We have an important amount of shooting, this is a western and there were many such challenges back then…well, in fact they have so many mass shootings in America that the number of casualties might be the same – a much bigger population taken into account; indeed, I have seen The Drama the other day, which has mass shootings at the core

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
