Positivity by Barbara Fredrickson
A life changing classic- 10 out of 10
Scholars and reputed positive psychologists keep referring to the classic work by the excellent professor Barbara Fredrikson.
Her book is so wonderful that I read through it very slowly, to prolong my enjoyment.
It has some ground breaking discoveries and also explores terrain that seems to be common knowledge from the ancient days.
If only you would apply it.
Positive people live longer, more successful professional, private lives and fall sick much less often than negative ones.
Positivity broadens and builds
This is one of the facts discovered and proved by professor Fredrickson and if only for this we should become more positive.
It was proved with numerous tests that participants in studies that have a positive mindset have a better peripheral vision.
Those who have a positive perspective can rely on more resources built by this attitude than the rest of human kind.

A better car, more money or a move to California are among the Happiness Myths as exposed by Sonja Lyubomirsky and Daniel Gilbert.
We tend to have a happiness base level to which we return, even if we win the lottery, move to the Caribbean or the like.
The 3 to 1 ratio
This is another contribution by Barbara Fredrickson in collaboration with Marcial Losada, who came up with a mathematical quotient.
In other words, in order to be flourishing you need a proportion of Three Positive Events to each negative one.
If you have less than that you are stagnating or worse, declining and the worse the ratio is for various individuals the more serious the danger.
What I have found interesting is the fact that we need some negativity, ergo the aforementioned problem with those that report absolute bliss.
In fact, we need negative events in order to appreciate the positive when we have it, which otherwise could become dull.
Stefan Klein – in The Happiness Formula- and others include among the top necessary attributes for a happy life- Diversity.
Then there is the advice of Tal Ben Shahar from Harvard-
- Learn to fail, or fail to learn
Some negativity will make as stronger, the same way our organisms need to be exposed to various viruses to build immunity.
This is a fabulous, amazing book which was mentioned and will be again referred to in our group-
Happiness is a choice…Make it!
