I am not sure if I did not like Paris, Texas https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/08/paris-texas-written-by-sam-shepard-and.html directed by the same acclaimed Wim Wenders more than Wings of Desire, which seems somewhat depressing, albeit it is clearly a case where the world is upside down, and it affects everything

 

Spoiler alert: I will digress, more than that, I may not even touch on Wings of Desire except in passing because my mind is on other (calamitous) things, so here we have it, a success with the critics, I can see it has a lot to say, but I was not really in the mood for a black and white – with some colored passages – sad narrative

On the other hand, we need angels – the great Bruno Ganz and a few others seem to be messengers from heaven, or something along these lines – as we have trouble with Hormuz, Orange American Psycho https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/04/american-psycho-by-bret-easton-ellis.html and this war

 

To add insult to injury, I found this morning that our government fell: I was at the club downtown, and these ghouls arrived, happy as birds, because they support the nationalist, extremist local MAGA outfit, and it is so stupid (MAGA equals idiot in my book, or vile) because we have a major crisis on our hands, no matter what

These local (and the original, American) MAGA support Putin, they are so ghastly that they disregard history, and ergo the causes of our problems: the Soviets brought communism here, after World War II, and that was such an unpopular doctrine, and then all that disaster, mass killings, economic ruin, and brain washed people…

 

Wings of Desire reminds me of It’s a Wonderful Life https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/its-wonderful-life-by-frank-capra-and.html wherein we also have the angelic theme, notwithstanding the fact that there is only one such messenger, Geroge, if I am not mistaken, one who has to do a good job, or else…

James Stewart is this banker who gets suicidal, and then George the Angel shows the hero what would happen to the small town without him, how awful it would be, evidently, It’s a Wonderful Life is one of the Top 20 I would say, and the number to watch around Christmas, though here they keep putting on Home Alone

 

If only the Orange Woland https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/04/the-master-and-margarita-by-mikhail.html decided to make movies, or stay a scoundrel in real estate – how good his majesty Charles III proved with his jokes about speaking French and their own attempt at real estate re -development, or whatever he called it, hinting at the demolition

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
