I have read
The Valley of Bones https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/10/the-valley-of-bones-by-anthony-powell.html and enjoyed the first time, and now
for the second, I am thinking that there may be a third, Insha’Allah, if The
Valley of Bones does not extend to this place, in that this war gets to our
realm and then we have Armageddon
Nick Jenkins
is in the army now, at the end of The Kindly Ones, he visits Lady Moly, whose brother-in-law
helps the hero, where Kenneth Widmerpool had failed, indeed, the latter proves
to be a complex character, but notwithstanding that, he is as obnoxious as
possible, instead of offering support, he wants favors
Gwatkin is
one of the more than three hundred personages that populate the phenomenal A
Dance to The Music of Time, and he is prominent in this volume, he likes to command,
but he falls in love with a local woman, and then loses his concentration, to
the point where he is removed, I am reminded of another masterpiece
Catch 22 https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/04/catch-22-by-joseph-heller.html by Joseph Heller is one of the top 5
on The Modern Library’s Top 100, and indeed what a superb work of art it is,
the madness described with fantastic humor resembles some of what we find in
The Valley of Bones to some extent

Widmerpool casts his grotesque, malicious shadow again – I think I remember
from years back that he will be responsible for the death of an important
character, Charles Stringham, and I can put this here without a spoiler alert
because it is just a speculation, if could well be my fantasy – and there are
throwbacks

instances, he is humiliated again, though he is so full of himself – in jest,
he says he is the one able to get the commanding general’s position, but albeit
he pretends he is joking, he means it – that he reminds me of Orange Caligula

can presume he was the target, at that Correspondents’’ Diner, where an
engineer opened fire
People keep
saying – to use one of his often-repeated expressions, called echolalia – that
‘oh, no, violence is not the solution’ and ok, that is correct, but I am
thinking Bentham, utilitarian philosophy https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/discovering-philosopher-in-you-big.html and the notion that it may be better
to see him gone
