Fear: Trump in the White House by Bob Woodward
Eight out of 10
Bob Woodward is not just the winner of the Pulitzer Prize, but the man who – together with his colleague, Carl Bernstein - has entered history following their investigation on the Watergate Scandal and the consequent resignation of the American President, Richard Nixon.
The subject of his latest book is a very intriguing, provocative, loud, narcissistic, some say deranged, demented, powerful – although seemingly so weak – and extremely dangerous.
Excerpts from the book have appeared before the publication, which has been a tremendous success with over 1.1 million copies sold in the first week and an exceptional interest from the media…we may yet get to see a motion picture based on it, hopefully about as good as the quintessential All The President’s Men.
As the entire world has been able to see from the tweets, the Helsinki images and the terrible pronouncements of this man, Trump has written, said and shouted incredible things, which are in no way suited for the leader of the free world.
In fact, his election as American president raises the question over the progress, the development of humanity, which has come so far in science, technology, raising life expectancy, reducing poverty in so many places and yet:
Is this the level of civilization we have reached? Electing Trump?
Granted, the popular vote went to Hilary Clinton, the election was a revolt against the established “elites and politicians”, but it is still hard to understand and digest, for the man seems to have no positive qualities.
Indeed, this book may be better read before or after seeing Active Measures, a phenomenal documentary that appears to demonstrate the fact that the Russians had flipped this braggadocio after the bankruptcies that made this “great businessman” owe eight billion dollars and banks refuse any dealings with him:
The epithets – we cannot call insult an appellative that properly describes a person – used by officials working for Trump are relevant about the calamity that this world leader represents.
General Kelly, his Chief of Staff has called him an idiot, Rex Tillerson, his former Secretary of State has used Fucking moron, the secretary of Defense, Mad Dog Mattis, has discovered that the Commander in Chief has the understanding of a fifth or sixth grader.
One would think that a book about the most powerful man in the world – after his puppet master, Putin – would be educational, inspiring in that we should be able to learn so much about Character Strengths, values and skills that one needs to get to the top and how to acquire them.
Only the “hero” of this book is actually a villain, a man without principles, morals, only obsessed with himself and his image, preoccupied stupidly with the money spent by the USA on defense in places like south Korea, without comprehending that this is money well spent and at stake it could be World War III, as General Mattis has tried to explain at one point.
Indeed, the book opens with the chief economic adviser to the president, Gary Cohn, stealing an important document from the desk of the impulsive, erratic and foolish Donald, who was about to sign a document ending the accord with South Korea and which has been since shown on CNN and other media sources.
Mores sensible people have tried to make this man understand the strategic importance of South Korea – for instance, as the defense was organized, they would learn within a few seconds about an intercontinental missile – with a potential nuclear weapon – as opposed to more than ten minutes delay in Alaska.
If Trump has insulted almost everyone from the other side, from Meryl Streep to football players, from Robert de Niro to “crooked” Hilary, he never said a bad word about Putin, who seems to have all his admiration, adulation, respect and probably his allegiance.
People working in his administration seem to be worried about his instability, the fact that he probably is unfit for office – the latest, 21st of September 2018, news has the Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rostein preoccupied about the danger posed by this president and is intention to apply the 25th Amendment .
The man who has reached the top of the world does not read, is unable to concentrate on one page memos, appears unhinged, the chief of staff talks about “Crazy town” and his behavior is out of a medical book, the mental derangement section.
The “very stable genius” has decided to believe Vladimir Putin- a killer, tyrant and vicious monster – over his own Intelligence Agencies and stated that loud and clear in Helsinki, for the whole world to see.
Others have written about the same symptoms, the madness, chaos in the White House, without the benefit of the same established reputation as Bob Woodward, who had written eight books about the previous presidents, but the same pattern becomes obvious and appears to confirm that Trump is a catastrophe.
