Little Children written by Todd Field and Tom Perrotta, directed by the former was nominated in 2007 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Kate Winslet, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Jackie Earle Haley and for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay- it is a feature I liked, even seeing it for the second time, albeit it would only make it to my Top 500 or so, it is not on the say level with say Parasite…you find thousands of notes on films from The New York Times’ Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made and other lists on my blog https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/do-you-have-any-feedback.html

8 out of 10

Kate Winslet https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/the-reader-by-david-hare-based-on-novel.html is excellent as Sarah Pierce, the main character of Little Children, she has won The Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for The Reader, and has an immense career, I think she moved into directing, something with her daughter, was it?

Sarah Pierce meets Brad Adamson, aka the equally impressive Patrick Wilson, at the playground, where they both bring their Little Children, Aaron Adamson and Lucy Pierce, the father is about the only male that is in this position, the rest of the parents are almost exclusively women, and they all long for this attractive fellow

Sarah tells him about this, jokes about the fact that they are scared about him, which is the reason why nobody had talked to him before, and then she says that they even have a bet of five dollars, for the one who will get his phone number, and then she raises the stakes, saying that they will be aghast if they hug and…kiss

Madame Bovary https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2024/12/madame-bovary-by-gustave-flaubert.html is essential for this film, both because there are some similarities, and then because there is a book club (they are all the rage now, Dua Lipa, Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow and so many others have one) and they read…

The chef d’oeuvre and have conflicting views, even Sarah confesses that she had a terrible opinion of Madame Bovary when she first read it, because the heroine made one mistake after another, but then she came to admire her stamina, determination: ‘she never gave up, she was a sort of feminist in that she hoped for a better life’

These were not her words, but something to that effect, while her opponent called Bovary a sort of tramp, jumping into bed with various men…Sarah starts seeing Brad, they keep going to the pool together, and they get very close, now, is this love? I keep going back to https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2024/12/joseph-and-his-brothers-by-thomas-mann.html Thomas Mann

He is one of my favorite authors, and furthermore, he probably influenced my life, with his view on love, which I have read when I was influenceable, as a teenager: this Mann personage is appalled by the many people who keep boasting about their love, friendship, while we only find real love, friends in art, literature

In real life, when tested, love turns out to be infatuation, sexual desire, which may, I should say probably applies to this couple in the motion picture, Brad is not really in adoration, he is rather shallow, frustrated because his spectacular wife – the glorious Jennifer Connelly – did not get him a mobile phone, among other things…
