Every Man for Himself

Every Man For Himself by Beryl Bainbridge, shortlisted for The Booker Prize in 1996, when the sublime Last Orders http://realini.blogspot.com/2018/03/last-orders-by-graham-swift.html by wondrous Graham Swift won the top award, and the equally mesmerizing A Fine Balance http://realini.blogspot.com/2019/08/a-fine-balance-by-rohinton-mistry-11.html by Rohinton Mistry was also nominated

Beryl Bainbridge is the excellent author of The Dressmaker http://realini.blogspot.com/2020/11/the-dressmaker-by-beryl-bainbridge-10.html, included on the list of 1,000 Novels Everyone Must Read, an oeuvre that I have enjoyed and looked forward to read more from the same appreciated novelist, who has other works very highly praised…

However, reading According to Queeney http://realini.blogspot.com/2020/04/according-to-queeney-by-beryl.html was less thrilling, surely in part because expectations are sometimes high and then there is a natural disappointment, when you expect perfect and you get just very good…nonetheless, it is different here…

I see now that in fact, I have read The Dressmaker after According to Quenney, and then the roles were reversed, not being enthused with the latter, I had a pleasant surprise, to have lower expectations beaten.

If we get to the conclusion here (which we should, or must, seeing that this note will clearly not be about Every Man for Himself, and I will get off tangents and just forget about the alleged subject) I did not enjoy the story about Morgan and his adventures on the Titanic, in part because it is such a familiar tale.

Actually, I had already been quite annoyed by the most successful motion picture ever, at the box office anyway, until the new series from the rather irritating, arrogant James Cameron, came along with the launch of Avatar (one and two) and probably in the next year or so, number three of a huge commercial franchise

Titanic http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/06/note-on-titanic-written-and-directed-by.html has quite a few things going for it, evidently, not in the least the presence of Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet…

It is just that it is not my thing, and subjectively, I tend to reject creators that seem obnoxious, when I can…if you read Intellectuals, http://realini.blogspot.com/2014/06/intellectuals-by-paul-johnson.html by Paul Johnson you will be astonished

Leo Tolstoy, Henrik Ibsen, Ernest Hemingway, Jean Jacques Rousseau were wonderful luminaries, but had an awful side, the latter abandoned his children at the door of an orphanage, when nine out of ten died in that situation

In fact, Beryl Bainbridge has quite a few books on The 1000 Novels Everyone Must Read list and The Bottle Factory Outing also falls into the category of expected joys that turned into mild surprise at the lack of fireworks in the comedy http://realini.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-bottle-factory-outing-by-beryl.html

Master Georgie is yet another of what is now five books in all that I have read by Beryl Bainbridge

http://realini.blogspot.com/2020/04/master-georgie-by-beryl-bainbridge-10.html and this invites a question

HBO is pushing an ad (or is it on national television, coming back to this, it is the latter, but why not leave it like this, for absurd humor) in which Brian Cox shouts ‘why would I waste two hours of my life on your stupid movie’

Brian Cox has recently risen to fame with Succession http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/02/83-out-of-100-for-succession.html wherein he plays Logan Roy, and has method actors around him, one of them being Jeremy Strong (?)

Cox has a point when he gives the example of Daniel Day Lewis, who was famous for his immersion into the roles – he used his left foot for…My Left Foot http://realini.blogspot.com/2018/01/my-left-foot-based-on-book-by-christy.html

Then he went on to retire at about fifty, and we have to highlight that he (Daniel Day Lewis) has won three Oscars, and was nominated for another two, giving audiences treasures such as his performance in The Age of Innocence http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/06/there-will-be-blood-written-and.html

Also, Brian Cox is jumping horse when he insists on Scottish independence, or better said he is within his rights to say anything, as long as it is not slander, abuse and so on, but we are wrong to invite people who claim to know about one domain or another, in which they have no expertise, on the contrary, just like it happened with Trump, who was indicted on 37 counts yesterday, a first in US history, an atrocious, disgusting attitude, from a vile monster…we need to think of Socrates http://realini.blogspot.com/2016/08/apology-by-plato-unexamined-life-is-not.html the wisest man in antiquity…

Now for a question, and invitation – maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more than a million dollars with this http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/02/unique-in-world.html?q=unique+in+the+world – as it is, this is a unique technique, which we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not know how to get the befits from it, other than the exercise per se

As for my role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/realini-in-newsweek-participant-in.html
