The Book of The City of Ladies by Christine de Pezan is ranked 702nd on The Greatest Books of All Time site, nevertheless, it does not make it in my top 2,000, and let us not try to figure it for the first 5k, and here you have my review, ‘if you choose to take it, or accept it, which is that line from Mission Impossible, when they have a new task for Tom Cruise, and then he will go hang from some plane or other, for real, he does his own stunts, well, he is the most prominent figure in Scientology – I should not get into that, people may get offended, and then I had my schism with Goodreads -by the way, I am there, temporarily, maybe, as Realini Ionescu, if you read this on the blog, if it is the other way, then this is the link to the blog I use now https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/02/is-this-unique-could-it-make-money.html - so they may make a fuss over some criticism (or other) of religion, if the public cries out

In Mission
Impossible https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/06/mission-impossible-fallout-written-and.html Ethan Hunt aka Tom Cruise gets that
message with ‘this is the mission if you choose to accept it’ and then
-
Poof
Well, I did
not exactly accept the Book of The City of Ladies ‘mission’, in the sense that
it did not seem to be my kind of thing, and then these days I exaggerate with
Seneca https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/06/on-shortness-of-life-by-seneca.html and the Shortness of life idea
‘The Book of
the City of Ladies, or Le Livre de la Cité des Dames, is a book written by
Christine de Pizan believed to have been finished by 1405’ and as such, we can
see it as an astonishing achievement, given the period
-
Is
it a favorite?
-
No
way!
However, it
does present some incredible statements, such as ‘I concluded that God had
created a vile creature when He fashioned woman 👩 😭 🙏 …I was
astonished that such a worthy craftsman could have produced such an abominable
creature…As the authors would have it, she is a vessel filled with all sorts of
evil and vices 😈
Here I would refer to CS Lewis https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/surprised-by-joy-shape-of-my-early-life.html one of the magnificent luminaries whose deep
faith I admire, and whose arguments convince me
Christine de Pizan is writing ‘But then in my despair I said Oh Lord, how can this be?
I should not believe
that You, in Your infinite wisdom ever created anything lacking perfection…I don't understand this contradiction
C.S. Lewis and
others would explain the notion of free will, The Almighty could have created a
‘perfect’ universe, everybody doing the right thing, but would that be desirable,
to have everything happening mechanically?
-
Therefore,
there is free will
And
imperfection.
Back to the
argument of Seneca, he said that life is not short, only you treat time as if
it were an infinite commodity, wasting long hours, days, maybe decades of our
lives…if I think of Orange Daddy (daddy was the new thing at the NATO meeting
yesterday) then that is another quote, from Bernard Shaw, who said something
about Hitler, to the effect that the man is efficient but ‘it would have been
better for humanity if he had not been born’
Now for my
standard closing of the note with a question, and invitation – I am on
Goodreads as Realini Ionescu, at least for the moment, if I keep on expressing
my views on Orange Woland aka TACO, it may be a short-lived presence
Also, maybe
you have a good idea on how we could make more than a million dollars with this
https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/02/is-this-unique-could-it-make-money.html – as it is, this is a unique technique, which
we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make
lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not
know how to get the benefits from it, other than the exercise per se
There is also the small matter of working for
AT&T – this huge company asked me to be its Representative for Romania and
Bulgaria, on the Calling Card side, which meant sailing into the Black Sea wo
meet the US Navy ships, travelling to Sofia, a lot of activity, using my
mother’s two bedrooms flat as office and warehouse, all for the grand total of
$250, raised after a lot of persuasion to the staggering $400…with retirement
ahead, there are no benefits, nothing…it is a longer story, but if you can help
get the mastodont to pay some dues, or have an idea how it can happen, let me
know
As for my
role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/realini-in-newsweek-participant-in.html
Some
favorite quotes from To The Hermitage and other works
‘Fiction is
infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or
Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the
careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more
moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating,
noble, profound…There are many more dramas, climaxes, romantic fulfillment,
twists, turns, gratified resolutions…Unlike reality, all of this you can
experience without leaving the house or even getting out of bed…What's more,
books are a form of intelligent human greatness, as stories are a higher order
of sense…As random life is to destiny, so stories are to great authors, who
provided us with some of the highest pleasures and the most wonderful
mystifications we can find…Few stories are greater than Anna Karenina, that
wise epic by an often foolish author…’
