Werner
Herzog is one of the titans of The Screen Trade – Adventures in The Screen
Trade http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/02/adventures-in-screen-trade-by-william.html by William Goldman is one of the
best books for cinephiles, which argues that the ‘film author’ is a wrong
concept, however popular it was when Alfred Hitchcock was at his zenith, and
the success of his films was attributed solely to him
For Werner
Herzog we could argue over the same point, that it is his immense talent that
gave us Fitzcarraldo http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/08/a-short-history-of-film-by-wheeler.html the motion picture story of a man
that is dedicated to opera, the adventure of a ship on the Amazon, how the
vessel is transported over the hills, taken out of the tempestuous waters and
carried way with huge effort
The Burden
of Dreams http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/12/note-on-burden-of-dreams-director-les.html is an astounding documentary that
looks at the true saga of filming Aguirre, which was interpreted by telluric,
unpredictable, unstable and frankly mad Klaus Kinsky, who has had intense
disputes with the director…
Nay, he
argued with many others (most of them, if memory does not betray) and he even
inflicted a serious injury on one of the native participants in the filming,
albeit that might be because he used that ‘Method acting’ technique which has
been debated recently, and at other times, due to the success, but also
controversy surrounding it
Daniel Day
Lewis http://realini.blogspot.com/2018/01/the-age-of-innocence-based-on-classic.html is probably the epitome of the
Method Actor , winner of three Academy Awards, and all of them for Best Actor
in a Leading role, against say Jack Nicholson, who has one for Supporting Role
in About Schmidt
From the
brilliant My Left Foot http://realini.blogspot.com/2018/01/my-left-foot-based-on-book-by-christy.html onwards, Daniel Day Lewis has awed
cinephiles with extraordinary, intense, vibrant, memorable acting, but he has
also been named by Brian Cox (Logan Roy in Succession, probably still available
on HBO Max)
The
respectable, if not so likeable Brian Cox was arguing over the exaggerations
involved in Method Acting, which were the preference of the actor playing his
elder son in the drama that recalls Fox News and the Murdoch reprehensible clan
(albeit there is some hope there, once the patriarch is gone, maybe the more
sensible of the sons will get some influence and end that outpouring of lies
and vitriol, responsible for the ascension of the most dangerous man on the
planet, well, alongside Putin and Xi)
The name of
the Method Man on that set is Jeremy Something (it could easily be identified
on google, but why bother, he is not a favorite, indeed, I have seen him in a
collection of photos looking at Hollywood power couples, and the outfit he was
in, just as well as his wife, was symbolic for what I see as his persona)
A spoiler
alert, warning, disclaimer here could be futile, even irritating, why wait so
long, but it is now that I realize there is nothing yet on poor Kaspar Hauser
(an unfortunate human being, till he is lifted from his absolute ignorance,
tortured as he had been and abused) and the way this is going, it would be just
as well to say that marvelous as the motion picture is, I have another way of
enjoying this here…
Daniel Day
Lewis http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/06/there-will-be-blood-written-and.html has reached the peak of the
mountain, unequaled success, and then retired, something Brian Cox calls ‘burn
out’, actually, this step back is used to emphasize the dangers of Method
Acting, that will overwhelm one
Denis Diderot
http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/12/jacques-le-fataliste-by-denis-diderot.html has written a classic analysis of
acting, where the differences in attitude are pondered: is it better to use your
heart, get into the emotions of the character, ‘Feel His Pain’, or have a
detached modus operandi?
In To The
Hermitage http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/09/to-hermitage-by-malcolm-bradbury-author.html by Malcolm Bradbury, the author is
saying that Method Acting was anticipated by Diderot, which favors using the
mind, only to me, it sounded as if Method means that action whereby the
thespians sink in with their heart and all…Daniel Day Lewis was using his Left
Foot on and off screen, to get a better understanding of the personage, the
painter who became famous and acclaimed
Point
Counterpoint http://realini.blogspot.com/2016/11/point-counter-point-by-aldous-huxley.html by enchanting Aldous Huxley has a
very peculiar figure in it, an actress that disappears, her friends look for
her, keep coming to her flat, only to get the same answer from the maid, the
only one to answer the door
The
revelation is that the maid proves to be…the actress herself, she has had a
role that she prepared for so damn well that she became the uneducated, rough,
rather unappetizing person that her entourage could not recognize in a million
years, and thus we can wonder, was that Method acting again…to conclude with
The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, that was barely mentioned here, Werner Herzog is
one of the giants, and this is more than clear in this movie that has won
acclaim and trophies at the Cannes Film Festival, the best place to look for
classic pictures…
Now for a
question, and invitation – maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more
than a million dollars with this http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/02/unique-in-world.html?q=unique+in+the+world – as it is, this is a unique technique, which
we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make
lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not
know how to get the befits from it, other than the exercise per se
As for my
role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/realini-in-newsweek-participant-in.html
Some
favorite quotes from To The Heritage and other works
‘Fiction is
infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or
Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the
careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more
moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating,
noble, profound…There are many more dramas, climaxes, romantic fulfillment,
twists, turns, gratified resolutions…Unlike reality, all of this you can
experience without leaving the house or even getting out of bed…What's more,
books are a form of intelligent human greatness, as stories are a higher order
of sense…As random life is to destiny, so stories are to great authors, who
provided us with some of the highest pleasures and the most wonderful
mystifications we can find…Few stories are greater than Anna Karenina, that
wise epic by an often foolish author…’
‚parturiunt
montes, nascetur ridiculus mus’
“From Monty
Python - The Meaning of Life...Well, it's nothing very special...Try and be
nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some
walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all
creeds and nations.”
