Silence of The Lambs is celebrated as one of the best films ever, and indeed, once upon time, yours truly concurred…seen in part again yesterday, it does please, it is evidently a formidable, ‘solid’ feature, but there are some flaws, at least when you look from here, that have escaped me the first, and maybe the second time – actually, I am not sure how many times was that, let us hope not too many…

 

I say not too many, because it would be a bit embarrassing to have to see Jodie Foster doing Clarice (if that is the name of that luminary, valiant, smart, intrepid, prophetic, creative, the list is without end FBI agent) on hundred times to see that there is something wrong there, again, just for this cinephile

Actually, let us put in the spoiler alert, warning, disclaimer here, to avoid any shenanigans, mea culpa – I have had a complaint recently, Goodreads took out a note, labeling it as ‘spam’, which looks like so much nonsense, because these lines lack gravitas, significance, merit, you name it, but then I make the effort

 

Meanwhile, on Goodreads in my country, they keep this fraud right at the top, Number One Across the Nation no less, a guy who has posted hundreds of ‘reviews’ per day, without a single letter that belongs to him, they are all copy paste, and the whole profile is thus bogus, a cheat, but why is the site permitting it?

And they come down on poor me, with full force, what the hell sort of justice is that, you take down one, admittedly flawed, note, and then allow maybe more than five thousand, which are the definition of cheating, the scale, the speed of production, the feedback, and if you check randomly, you see you have a robot, or Chat GPT, whatever you want to call it, Chat GPT is the word of the year, for The Economist

 

Now a few words about Silence of the Lambs, if I do not get distracted, infuriated by something else, which seems unlikely, because I am focused enough on the contrast I suggest from the title, Hannibal Lecter versus Putin, Trump and other such super heroes of our age – the latter is an expression of Western colonialism, of time, not space, because our era, the calendar, the year 2023 in which we are go back to Christ, Christianity, the aleatory manner in which Christians have taken over the division of time…

The obvious answer for the comparison is that Hannibal is a vampire, ghoul, and the others are decent, honorable men, preferred by millions, Trump has had more than seventy million votes in 2020, and he is ahead where it matters (plus the obvious red states) and would win, if the elections were today…

 

In the same way, Putin is popular in his land, where the hoi polloi like the wins he brought home – just like Venezuelans have voted these days for the annexation of a large chunk of neighboring Guyana, in a referendum, organized because that piece of land has lots of oil now – and they want the Ukraine, probably Moldova, why not Romania, Baltic States, the whole Soviet Union and the former Warsaw Pact, why not?

Somehow, I arrived to where my convictions are – so pernicious, violent, obnoxious for some that I have gained a sort of ambiguous reputation at the club downtown, where some supporters of Putin, Trump, the same thing ultimately, it is just that the latter does not have the tyranny, means to send missiles into Mexico, something he said he wanted, and do more, restrained as he was by the American system, which he would dismantle…in a recent interview, he said he will be a dictator on day one…

 

Yah, right, he will do that on day one, and then calm, serene, restrained, superior, well balanced as we know him, on the following days he will show abstinence and keep within the rules…what a joke, this idiot will give the Ukraine on a platter, and if the Butcher in the Kremlin wants more, he will have it, because he has said nice things about the vain buffoon aka Orange Jesus, as the republican representatives called him

In other words, I see Hannibal Lecter as less of a monster (gruesome, disgusting, terrible, loathsome as he certainly was) than Putin, Trump and there are many other leaders to be listed here, because the Napoleon of Red Square has killed many more, if indirectly, has not tortured them himself, but the atrocities, rapes, murder of children, women, old people hugely outnumber what Lecter could dream to do

 

Why Trump in the same breath, well, because instead of safeguarding democracy, showing the world the way forward, advancing noble principles, rules, this ignoble clown will put the order of the free world at risk…nay, disregard that, not at risk, he will damage it surely, there is no question of risk, maybe he does, maybe he will not, because those who keep arguing that ‘well, he did not do much the first time’ are wrong

First of all, not much damage? I beg to differ, but for the first term of potentially many the fool was not ready, he kept putting in some decent folks, such as Mad Dog Mattis, and then throwing them out the window, or forcing them to depart, now the cretins surrounding Orange Jesus have been preparing for years, and they have the ‘best teams’ to get their job done, they have been vetting for so long the candidates

They will have in key positions the likes of mini Lecter, savages that maintain the elections have been won by this pathetic mad fool, worship this Orange Jesus and deny any other ‘made up idol’, they pledge allegiance to a cult like the one who took people to Guyana, decades ago, to have them commit mass suicide…
