Agatha Christie is the most successful writer of detective novels, even if The Daughter of Time http://realini.blogspot.com/2020/10/the-daughter-of-time-by-josephine-fey.html by Josephine Fey is at number one on The Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time, which is a list published in 1990 by the Crime Writers' Association (CWA)…Five years later, the Mystery Writers of America (MWA) published a similar list named The Top 100 Mystery Novels of All Time, and on that latter, The Daughter of Time is at number five

 

The first novel by Agatha Christie on the British list is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd http://realini.blogspot.com/2018/08/the-murder-of-roger-ackroyd-by-agatha.html which has one of the most astonishing solutions I have seen – which the Crime Writers must have found inventive, seeing that they placed Roger at number five – in a story told by the doctor who is called to see the cadaver

The Daughter of Time looks at the truth behind the accusations laid against Richard III – you know, the one that Shakespeare took on ‘Now is the winter of our discontent, turned into glorious summer by this son of York, and all the clouds that lured upon our house, in the deep bosom of the ocean buried’-

It turns out that Richard III was not guilty as charged, and as The Economist said last week, in the culture section, an article on the rather lame Netflix Crown, season six, Shakespeare should have warned audiences ‘highly fictionalized’, the basis in reality was really slim, if extant, which was a shame

 

As for The Murder in the Orient Express, it raises some interesting, ethical questions, such as what to do when you see somebody who is loathsome, a monster, that harms society, should you walk away, try and punish him, but then kill him would not be too much, if is not a Hitler, or Stalin, what if he is just Trump?

It is exhilarating to know that nobody reads your lines, at least not to this point anyway, because against the pleasure of being engaged with, liked perhaps, there is the awareness that you could even suggest that the world would be better off without the man who has the adulation of over seventy million cretins

 

And that is just America, he has fans at our sauna, and surely in so many places around the globe, where they vote for replicas of this real life, present danger of the victim in The Orient Express, so disgusting as the dead fellow on the train is, I would argue that the moron that will take the most powerful job in the world again, next year, if the polls of this moment are correct is even worse than the most abject killer

Because he will assassinate multitudes, if not directly, by his sheer negligence, incompetence, monstrous character, narcissistic personality disorder, the determination he has to ‘get rid of the vermin’, this is what he calls the opposition, just like Hitler and other dictators have done, he, Trump, would like to be a tyrant
