Louis de Funes https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/08/le-malade-imaginaire-by-moliere.html was one of the best comedians of all time, and his contribution here makes the difference between a bad feature and one that is entertaining, if only for watching this master class, a Magister Ludi showing you The Game

To keep in line with the jesting tone of a film that is meant to cause hilarity, I was wondering whether Louis de Funes used one or the other Method of acting, that is, would he try and live as a Rabbi, sink into the role, as the disciples of this way of getting on stage or the screen do, the best example being Daniel Day Lewis

https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/10/there-will-be-blood-written-and.html the only winner of three Oscars for leading roles, Jack Nicholson has won the same number, but one is for a supporting act, was going to extremes for his performances, famously, he used his foot and spent so much time in a wheelchair for My Left Foot

a film about a Rabbi is something appropriate at this time, if the story is serious and brings insight, nonetheless, this is just a comedy, which made me think of what happens in Israel, which had elections only a few days ago, Netanyahu has not won, but we could not say he lost either, a very astute player, he may yet come on top

I have read a marvelous Pulitzer Prize winner, The Netanyahus https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/10/the-netanyahus-account-of-minor-and.html which gives amusing insight into a period of the life of the Israeli Prime Minister, when his family lived in America, which is so different now

Rabbi Jacob is very different from some of the characters I have read about, even recently, again, this is mainly because the movie is a comedy, and then there are differences due to the period, and we have a schism within the Israeli society, on the one hand, you have the ultra-orthodox, and the other end, liberal Israelis

Rabbis and Wives is another Pulitzer Prize finalist, although this one did not win the top award, which is about what is says, various rabbis, we have a few, because there are three stories https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/10/rebbetzin-by-chaim-grade-is-first.html in all of them we have strong rebbetzin

Finally, I wish this motion picture and others were closer to the Glasperlenspiel, using the Kingsley Amis formula: “First you want to get hold of something to say, then you fudge up a plot of a story of some kind, and then you put in bits of things you have seen and heard round the place, and then you try and make it all sound sort of interesting or witty or funny or unusual or striking in some way. If you find some bit that isn't that, you work at it until it is, or at least as near it as you can get” here is the link to my blog, maybe you are interested:
