If we look for the definition of tropism, we may fall on the wrong meaning, but that confusion (for those of us less erudite, knowledgeable, educated) is in itself 5hrowing a light on the book that Le Monde has picked to sit along A La Recherche du Temps Perdu on the list of 100 Books of The Century

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oy4kZ2WBY2M people do not read Marcel Proust these days, indeed, they do not read anymore – we can count fifty Shades of Grey as literature, but many contest it…in an article in The Economist, it is mentioned that this volume has been the bestselling work of its decade, and maybe most of those who contest it are envious on that score – but immersing in such a slow moving, long chef d’oeuvre could be daunting – this reader avoids books that are too long.

Nathalie Sarraute states that ‘every writer is a critic of society’ and thus the label applied to Marcel Proust seems misplaced, if that is the word – the immense phrases that Proust has written have been his style, an instrument of Research, he had his vision that determined his style, the structure, a monument of language…

 

Also on YouTube, there is another material which has the author of Tropisms and Isabelle Huppert reading from the book, and it is both enchanting and confusing for yours truly, segments that are pure poetry – that may be the beauty of the French language – and amusing dialogues that come out of nowhere

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
