Quentin Tarantino https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/05/reservoir-dogs-by-quentin-tarantino-is.html is one of the best filmmakers of all time, he has two of the Top 20 Best Films, in my personal file, maybe it would be Top 50, if I think of more favorites, he made history with them, I am not a great fan of the other oeuvres though

 

We can find the story of the making of those classics, how Harvey Keitel helped with Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino was going to make it black and white, if I remember well, such a miraculous work of art, from the start, with the argument over the tip, the principle of giving money in one place, and not in another, Mr. Pink aka Steve Buscemi at the forefront

John Travolta has the lead, as Vincent Vega, in Pulp Fiction – by the way, what fabulous names, Marsellus Wallace, stupendous Ving Rhames, is my favorite – and this is one of the best performances ever, the thespian can be magnificent https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/08/get-shorty-written-by-scott-frank-based.html

 

In Get Shorty, he is also glorious as Chili Palmer, the loan shark turned film producer, one of his memorable lines is used by yours truly sometimes ‘I’m the one telling you the way it is’, when in the office of Gene Hackman, as the feeble personage is visited by Delroy Lindo and James Gandolfini, for a piece of the action

We could say that all the scenes in Pulp Fiction are teaching material, they might be taught in film school, starting with the introduction, when we meet Vincent and Jules Winnfield, Samuel L. Jackson in a defining, quintessential role, as they drive to pay a visit, and then kill some men who have attracted the wrath of Marsellus Wallace

 

Their banter over the trip to Europe, how they have Le Big Mac, and other differences, using mayonnaise with McDonalds in France, then light drugs being legal in The Netherlands, the disagreement over the foot massage and the terrible consequences, all is perfect, the mess they make and the arrival of Mr. Wolf played by Harvey Keitel

Again, all the fresco and the details are phenomenal, Captain Koons, the divine Christopher Walken, bringing the watch from the late father, who had been a prisoner of war, and kept the precious memorabilia in his…rectum, this is a joy to watch, a combination of thrills, horror and exquisite humor, even when bad things happen

 

Bruce Willis stumbles upon Marsellus Wallace, at a pedestrian crossing, and they are enemies at that point, except they become prisoners of some vile, disgusting far right extremists – Pulp Fiction is five times better than The Hateful Eight https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/08/the-hateful-eight-written-and-directed.html but then, its is much better than almost any other film

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
