Albert Camus https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2024/12/letranger-by-albert-camus-10-out-of-10.html has written L’Etranger aka The Stranger, which for Le Monde, and maybe most of The French, is the nec plus ultra, rien ne vas plus, crème de la crème, The Best, or at least for the 20th Century, for there are also

 

Honore de Balzac, which happens to be the name of one of my two macaws (who could be female, if the spouse is correct in her speculations, regarding his/her attempts to nest, aggressivity which has increased of late), Gustave Flaubert, Victor Hugo…Marcel Proust is in second position, on the Le Monde list…

Nevertheless, A La Recherche du Temps Perdu is my absolute favorite https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/le-temps-retrouve-by-marcel-proust.html although The Stranger is overwhelming from the start «Aujourd'hui, maman est morte. Ou peut-être hier, je ne sais pas.>> one of the best first lines

 

Les Justes was translated as The Just Assassins, because it is about this plot to murder the grand duke, in Russia, in 1905 – how wonderful it would be if somebody did that today, to the Terrible Czar, who murdered maybe more than one million people already, in the war in Ukraine and in other places, Navalny was killed in prison

It reminds me of The Secret Agent https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/the-secret-agent-by-joseph-conrad.html albeit the Joseph Conrad novel has a merry side to it, though they plan to use a bomb, the conspirators blunder, there is incompetence and failure, while The Just Assassins is quite tragic all along

 

Indeed, I was just wondering if the original is just as bleak, for what I ponder here is my view of an adaptation, the National Radio (I think it was) has made a play out of this – anyway, Albert Camus was not known for his comedies, he said that ‘There is only one really serious philosophical problem, and that is suicide’

Still, I would say that if one decides to commit suicide, he (most likely) could try and take Putin along, thus doing humankind a great service, there are others on that list, Kim of North Korea, I would put in some orange fool, without naming it, for I had MAGA on my tail before, they even banned me for a while, so I better be careful

 

The Case of Comrade Tulayev https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/02/the-case-of-comrade-tulayev-by-victor.html is a fabulous novel, which shows what happened in The Soviet Union, when Stalin killed more people than Hitler, tortured them, sent them to the gulags, and the extremists of the left forget that, mad people in MAGA and in the other corner

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
