10 out of 10 in some way, but also 8 out of 10 somehow

 

Project Hail Mary https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/04/project-hail-mary-by-andy-weir-is-one_22.html came to mind, since they sent the hero (Ryan Gosling in the movie) there to explore, and something similar happens in Rogue Moon, notwithstanding the quite clear differences, one is a volunteer, the other is forced to go

 

The science from this Science Fiction oeuvre is not attractive for this reader, it surely has to do with incomprehension, lack of interest, besides, this was published in 1960, and in the meantime, even the Chinse have travelled there, though I am not sure if they landed, wait, the Indians it, I am getting confused.

What is clear is that astronauts have landed there, ‘a small step for man, a giant step for humanity’, therefore aspects of Rogue Moon seem dated, even if, who knows, they may enter this Zone, where humans are tormented, killed, at least in the plot of this captivating work, which I must say I have enjoyed

 

Martin Seligman https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/learned-optimism-by-martin-seligman.html also came to mind, in particular the chart with character strengths he has developed – the main characters impress in some of those chapters, especially Doctor Edward Hawks, the scientist who sends people to the…Rogue Moon

They are not using rockets, it is a form of ‘matter transmission’, and they had had victims, volunteers dead, or sick, this is when the head of personnel, Connington, enters the stage and he offers the solution, he knows the Übermensch that will be capable, willing to accomplish the mission, he has a splendid pedigree

 

Friedrich Nietzsche https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/a-few-words-on-beyond-good-and-evil.html wrote about the Übermensch, Al Barker is his name in this opus – Parachutist, transferred to OSS, specialized in assassination, used to be Olympic skier, he participated also in bobsled, small arms national champion, mountain climber, pilot, built a car to enter the Grand Prix, his grandfather was the most dangerous man on the American continent

Claire Pack is his partner, until he kicks her out, and the dynamic between these personages was the most enchanting element in the narrative, barker has an artificial leg, and I was tempted to put here he is suicidal, except he has a terrible force, and does not want to die, he just controls his fear, Connington is a manipulator

 

Algis Budrys is phenomenal in his psychological insight, he has a glorious EQ, here are some quotes ‘His mind is what he does with his memories, there is no other mind like it …in a sense, man is his own creation’; ‘there are two groups, the ones that are moved, and the others do the moving’

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
