Spencer Tracy https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/12/fathers-little-dividend-directed-by.html was one of the greatest thespians, and he has the role of Henry Drummond in the film adaptation of the play, and he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading role for his excellent performance, albeit Burt Lancaster would win, for Elmer Gantry

 

The film version was also nominated for another three Academy Awards, including for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium, indeed, it seemed a marvelous story when I first saw the film, but somehow belonging to another era, these conflicts had all been settled such a long time ago, weren’t they?

On the other hand, I must say that I am looking for ‘anata’, redemption, purgation, resurrection, whatever is possible, looking for atopos, the truth, beauty, wisdom, religion, and God, so, I am not all against Matthew Harrison Brady, but it is presumption, bigots, falsity, primitiveness that I refute, despise

Karen Armstrong seems to be the best expert on religion, and she says in one of her books that the creationists do more harm to the cause of Christianity (come to think of it, to religion in general) than so many others https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2024/03/a-short-history-of-myth-by-karen.html I feel the same about MAGA

 

The Monkey Trial took place in 1925, in Tennessee, but it could well repeat itself, seeing as the red states introduce rules that censor books, seek to establish religion, that is the ‘truthful, correct’ version, which is obviously Christianity – or so they would say, and put that into law – and humans are not the result of evolution

One of the six principles of Influence is Respect for authority, one example shows how hundreds have committed mass suicide due to this, while the Milgram experiment (I would add the Stanford one as well) showed how far people go when a person of (false, assumed, presumed) authority gives instructions and we see the calamity in the USA, and abroad

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
