John Wayne https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/02/red-river-written-by-borden-chase-and.html was one of the great actors, I should say greatest, except I am not such a great fan, I can see he was so talented, he was – what for ten years in a row? – America’s favorite, they called him Duke and he was an icon

 

Nevertheless, he was right wing, we could not be sure what his views would be today, but I fear he might have sympathized with MAGA, during the persecutions started by Senator McCarthy in the 1950s, John Wayne was quite aggressive towards the accused, mind you, I hate communism, I had to endure it for about twenty-five years…

Never mind that we can see the effects now, and for the rest of my life, what I can say with pride is that I took part in The Revolution http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/realini-in-newsweek-participant-in.html that toppled Ceausescu and ended the commie regime, if not immediately, the ones we had after that were quite red…

 

John Wayne has the leading (what else?) role of Ethan Edwards, a veteran of the American Civil War, who tries to find his niece, a raid of the Comanche had been quite vile, women were killed, and this girl was taken prisoner – Natalie Wood is Debbie Edwards (she was fifteen at the time), she would become one of the greatest thespians of all time

I have seen her recently in Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/12/bob-carol-ted-alice-written-by-larry.html an excellent comedy that is also part of The NYT 1,000 list – Debbie Edwards is taken as a wife, or squaw, by Scar, the leader of this Comanche tribe – white men had killed his family

 

Ergo, the motion picture would have another script today, but we cannot call it racist, since it makes clear that the Chieftain did have reason for his revenge, now, it is an especially bloody payback, but we now know that the Native Americans have been exterminated, their land has been taken away, even if MAGA would give you their fake version

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
