This is a capital book.

Its use is self-evident, albeit in the age of the internet, you can always search for one quote or another, and then you find the answer, which can be false, misleading, or both, besides, it is one thing to search for one piece…

- And another to have all these pages of bons mots
In the background, as I write this note, I have The Rest of Politics, a podcast I tend to listen to lately, with Alistair Campbell and Rory Stewart, and the topic for today’s show is…

- Off the scale corruption, referring to the leader of the free world

The reason I mention this is because there is this immense contrast between this faptura and the likes of Churchill, Caesar or Proust https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20...
In so many ways, we live in a Golden Age, airplanes, sanitation, internet, Goodreads (if I do not push it again, and because of my disdain for MAGA and their cult leader I get banished again) and so much more we have

On the other hand, though, it feels as if we return to the Middle Ages, with this corrupt monarch dominating the (once) free world, the Supreme Justice has just decided that he can rule pretty much as he likes
It is astounding and a complete disaster

Caesar had his flaws, evidently, but he had greatness, this is just sleaze and we have a stupid man shouting many times a day that ‘he is a very stable genius, the greatest and so on’, while lining his pockets openly

Harari was talking about this selfish, monarchical attitude, and speculating that we may have in a few years a situation where a son of Trump marries the daughter of the Kremlin tyrant and then they get Crimea to rule

Well, in the past there were scandals for much smaller things, Campbell and Stewart talked on their podcast about how Jimmy Carter sold his peanut farm when he was elected, and what an uproar there was concerning Hilary Clinton
And all she had made was one hundred thousand dollars, twelve years before her husband became president, now you have a Goodfella who made One Billion dollars per month, since he was elected in the highest office, and all by abusing the office, selling watches and all, getting a luxurious airplane as gift, massive amounts of money as quid pro quo, Contemptible https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/20...

There is also the small matter of working for AT&T – this huge company asked me to be its Representative for Romania and Bulgaria, on the Calling Card side, which meant sailing into the Black Sea wo meet the US Navy ships, travelling to Sofia, a lot of activity, using my mother’s two bedrooms flat as office and warehouse, all for the grand total of $250, raised after a lot of persuasion to the staggering $400…with retirement ahead, there are no benefits, nothing…it is a longer story, but if you can help get the mastodont to pay some dues, or have an idea how it can happen, let me know

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
