Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is the Fifteenth Greatest Book of All Time, at least if you consult the GOAT site, it is one of The 1,000 Novels Everyone Must Read, and yet, not one of my favorites – you find thousands of reviews on magnum opera from the aforementioned and other web pages on my blog https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/do-you-have-any-feedback.html and YouTube channel, where my macaws are the stars

8 out of 10
This is the
third review of Wuthering Heights https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2026/03/wuthering-heights-by-emily-bronte-is.html the most recent was posted only
about one month ago, because Emerald Fennell has adapted this classic and in
fact, it had the ‘premiere’ on HBO last night, at least in this realm
On Saturday
(May 9, 2026) we had another version aired on TVR Cultural, at least I think it
was there, and though not the best – the one with Laurence Olivier is the nec
plus ultra – this was much better than what Ms. Fennell offered us – actually,
Margot Robbie was not outstanding either, and Jacob Elordi has not impressed me
Nonetheless,
there is another motion picture on which Emerald Fennell and Jacob Elordi
worked together, and the result is much more radiant - https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/03/saltburn-screenplay-by-emerald-fennell.html Saltburn, with the spectacular Barry
Keoghan in the leading role, this thespian will win at least one Oscar
In the
latest adaptation that I have seen, Ralph Fiennes is Heathcliff and Juliette
Binoche has the role of Cathy – the result is much better than the 2026
release, but somehow, this is not the best motion picture wherein you can see
them, indeed, the two mesmerizing actors have been together in a better-known
production – The English Patient
Though
mocked by some, I think I remember Seinfeld and Elaine being cynical about it –
was it something along the lines of ‘die already’ shouted at the poor, dying
English Patient? - https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/08/the-english-patient-by-michael-ostaandje.html the film was acclaimed
Heathcliff
is an orphan that is both adopted and rejected by Cathy’s family, and we have a
peculiar love affair, destructive and suffocating to a degree, while on the
other hand it makes me think of Thomas Mann and his definitions, he had this
character that was appalled at the ease with which people speak of ‘love’
‘We only
find love, true friendship (and presumably other emotions) in art, literature,
when hoi polloi speak of love, they mean infatuation https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/death-in-venice-by-thomas-mann.html that is not the true feeling, when
tested, the lovers do not show fidelity, it is not ‘till death do us part’
Well,
Heathcliff means it, this is what the Thomas Mann means, an immolating emotion,
he will call Cathy to…haunt him, this also makes me think of To The Hermitage https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/to-hermitage-by-malcolm-bradbury-author.html and here is a quote from there
‘Fiction is
infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or
Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the
careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more
moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating,
noble, profound
