9 out of 10

I have enjoyed Ali – Fear Eats The Soul https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/12/note-on-ali-fear-eats-soul.html directed by the same, outstanding Rainer Werner Fassbinder – we had a president named Klaus Werner Johannis, and I liked him – ergo I was expecting quite a lot from The Marriage of Maria Braun

It is one of The New York Times’ Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made for good reason, it also makes it on my own Top 1,000 Favorites, if I compile a list, it may even make it among the first 500, maybe 200…and let me tell you about that ending, if I put in a spoiler alert, first let me see if I will write about that, more than to say I was puzzled

Hanna Shygullla is mesmerizing in the leading role, of Maria Braun, obviously, she is enchanting, alluring, resilient, imposing, even frightening at times, well, that ending comes to mind again, maybe it will haunt me, though I do not really understand what happens there, why is this the denouement so overwhelming?

We are at the end of World War II, and Hermann Braun, Maria’s husband, is missing – all the cast is marvelous, including Klaus Lowitsch, who has the role of the spouse, he reminds me of Klaus Maria Brandauer https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/12/out-of-africa-by-karen-blixen-and.html a fabulous thespian

Brandauer was spectacular in Mephisto and Colonel Redl, but he was wonderful as well in the better known Out of Africa – Maria Braun tries to earn a living, maybe a little more than that, and so she tries at this sort of club, or maybe I should call it a brothel, she has to get a health certificate to become a sex worker

Or maybe that is not the description, I mean she is more of a geisha, her imposing personality, wondrous attitude makes me backtrack, so I should edit, delete the above, but there is no time, and I keep saying this: who reads these lines? To my surprise, the answer was a couple of people, at in least in the past weeks

Spoiler alert, I may get off the subject altogether here, and just come back to write about the end, now that the spoiler is posted – this fella commented on a review ‘I was intrigued, until you had 45/47 in’ and he trapped me there, for a few minutes, because I had no idea what he was saying, until I realized: it was Orange Woland

The one I despise and use here as a symbol of Evil and stupidity, was respected by this ‘reader’ so I don’t know, should I be grateful that there are a couple of individuals who come to this corner, or upset that I met with MAGA? Nevertheless, the ending of Maria Braun is…explosive, I think she got very upset by what is revealed, but I am not sure
