Anton Chekhov https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/11/the-marriage-proposal-by-anton-chekhov.html is one of my favorite authors, I like his plays and the short stories, indeed, his Collection of Short Stories are included on The 100 Best Books of All Time list, and they are ranked 127th on the Greatest Books of All Time site

 

The humor in Jubilee is provided by this woman who intrudes upon The Jubilee: this bank is celebrating, when this character walks in, asking for money, she feels it is a legitimate request, albeit they keep telling her that this is a private outfit, and her complaint is meant for public authorities, she is in the wrong place.

But she would not hear any of this, she keeps on, saying that she would take some rubles now, and wait for the rest later, it is not a question of making improper demands, it is ger right, and she has the same line, even when they tell her this is not the place, the time, she has to go to some other place, they have nothing to do with it

 

Kafkaesque https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/07/the-metamorphosis-by-franz-kafka_18.html one would say, except it is absurd, only in reverse: normally, in Kafka (or here, when we had communism for instance) you would have the bureaucrats, officials, police, asking for absurd acts, bribes, etc., here we have a surreal commoner

This woman is the wife of an employee, who has been sick, he works for the prefecture, and he has received less money, but she wants compassion from this…bank, and it does not make sense, they have nothing to do with the local administration and try to explain it with no impact, which brings me to the present

  In The Fade aka Auf Dem Nichts, written by Hark Bohm and Fatih Akin In The Fade has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, although in this cinephile's opinion, Una Mujer Fantastica- which has won the Oscar in the same category- Nelyubov or The Square would have been better choices. Having said that, Auf Dem Nichts is a very good, significant, remarkable feature, that attracts attention to violence against minorities, in this case the Kurdish community in Germany. It is therefore not one sided, we do not have only Muslim lunatics killing innocent "infidels", but also some extreme Europeans murdering the other side. The problem is that, unacceptable, horrifying and vile as these acts are, it appears that the overwhelming majority of atrocities are committed by zealots acting in the name of Islam- radical and unrepresentative as they are for this supposedly peaceful faith, although there are passages in its holy book that seem to insist on a violent jihad and ultimat...
