I feel that with close to five hundred pages L.A. Confidential is too long, though I enjoyed the motion picture https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/08/la-confidential-based-on-novel-by-james.html some years ago, when I saw it: it has a Metascore of 91, which is fabulous, and it is the 126th most popular with audiences

 

The book was acclaimed, which is the reason why it was adapted for the big screen, nevertheless, if it is one of The 1,000 Novels Everyone Must Read, it is surprising to find that it is absent from the Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time, and then it is so far down the GOAT site, where it has two places, it is unexpected…

Until one reads the bloody book – I am jesting here, surely trying to hide for the moment the lack of purpose, dedication, attention, seeing that L.A. Confidential has about five hundred pages, the enthusiasm, if there was any, is soon diminished, vanishes, and I do not listen to the reader anymore…it was an audiobook

 

Hence, the motion picture was a better offer, even if it had Kevin Spacey  https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/08/american-beauty-written-by-alan-ball.html in one of the important roles, on the other hand, this thespian was miraculous in some features, regardless of his personal abuses

I am writing this because the film is only two hours and nearly twenty minutes long, while the audiobook is about sixteen hours long, and I know this is not the way to talk about a magnum opus – which is just my point in some manner, that it is not a chef d’oeuvre – the longer it is, the more pleasure you get from it

 

The best example would be A La Recherche du Temps Perdu, which I am reading again (also audiobook format actually) Marcel Proust https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2024/12/le-temps-retrouve-by-marcel-proust.html Kingsley Amis, Anthony Powell offer enchantment, and the reader wishes there would be scores of volumes to enjoy

Confidential too much time, then we are winning the game
