Monsieur Ladmiral is an old painter, who has met in his glory days all the important impressionist painters
Monet, Renoir, Manet and the other geniuses
At one point Monsieur Ladmiral has hoped to be one of the celebrated, famous elite.
Notwithstanding, he is a very good artist and his works are a pleasure to see.
He now lives alone a la Campagne, in the Country.
A long time servant, more of a companion now, Mercedes, helps him with the cleaning, cooking and the upkeep of the rather large house, more like a mansion, that he has.
Un Dimanche, his son, Gonzague visits with his family, his spouse and children.
They come once in a while, but not as often as the old painter would like.
The boys are boisterous and somehow, their sister finds herself trapped on a branch, high up in a tree.
The daughter of the host arrives, rather unexpectedly.
Irene is a very vocal, agitated, restless, probably unfulfilled, single woman, who came driving one of the early cars.
In order to start it, one has to get in front and push around a sort of lever.
A Sunday in the Country has a divine atmosphere, a glorious charm that is given not so much by the plot, since there is not much "happening", but by a certain feeling, a presence in the air.
