The Big Short Screenplay by Charles Randolph, Michael Lewis and Adam McKay, directed by the latter is not just one of the best motion pictures of this century, but a GOAT, which combines superb acting, a terrifying subject, it won the Oscar and multiple prizes for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay, the whole production is stupendous – now for my self-promotion: you find more than five thousand notes on films from The New York Times’ Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made and other sites, along with reviews of books from the Greatest Books of All Time and other lists on my blog and YouTube channel https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/do-you-have-any-feedback.html

The Big Short is a fabulous combination of terror, humor, complex financial lessons – well, the last part is not really true, I used a hyperbole, but hearing Margot Robbie as herself, explaining subprime was a treat, the dialogue and monologues do a lot to show what happened during, and especially before the 2008 Crisis

In order to get ever more business and profits, banks and other financial institutions created subprime loans, which means that people who had a low credit rating, or none at all, could access money to buy a house, or a few houses – the example of the strippers from Florida became famous, well, I do not know if you heard of it

Indeed, I ask at the sauna about ‘classic films’ and find that most of my interlocutors have not even heard about them https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/10/the-usual-suspects-written-by.html never mind see them, I am talking these days about House of Dynamite, one of the best features I have seen this year

Others do not seem keen on seeing this, it is a question of having the time, or not having it, and also the preferences we all have De gustibus non disputandum est so, let us get back to The Big Short: to get clients in places and categories where there would be none, banks will get those people in serious trouble

We all know what happened in 2008, so there is no need for spoiler alert, but the key here would be those who had anticipated: Michael Burry aka Christian Bale was one such peculiar figure, he spends time in bare feet, without socks in his office, listens to hard rock and swims against the current, clashing with investors

Michael Burry looked at those thousands of mortgages packed together, so that the whole thing becomes attractive sellable – they would give it to one bank, then another financial outfit and so on – at least that is how I remember it – and he can see that it is a house of cards, or House of Dynamite in that it would crumble

As I write this, I wonder what role this played in bringing to the fore this stupid moron – an oxymoron, but he is the quintessential ape – who leads the (once) free world, nonsense in itself: to lead means something completely different from what he is doing, destroying the White House, giving himself 230 million dollars from the DOJ aka from the people, after he and his cronies and family have made billions from self-dealing – plain and simple corruption for an African state – killing maybe mules carrying drugs, but maybe just fishermen near Venezuela and Columbia, the list is so long, we need volumes for this outrage

People saw the calamity of 2008 and looked for ‘better leaders’, and ergo they elected an orange orangutan, the abominable thing is that they still embrace him, I mean yes, we all make mistakes, I vouched for one called Basescu, president here for two terms, and if the first time I was taken in, then I could see he veered into the wild regions, anyway, I am appalled by what is happening and revolted by what MAGA has done and does to the world, Armageddon sounds inflated, let us hope it is, but the damage is calamitous

Now for my standard closing of the note with a question, and invitation – I am on Goodreads as Realini Ionescu, at least for the moment, if I keep on expressing my views on Orange Woland aka TACO, it may be a short-lived presence

Also, maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more than a million dollars with this https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/09/do-you-have-any-feedback.html – as it is, this is a unique technique, which we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not know how to get the benefits from it, other than the exercise per se

There is also the small matter of working for AT&T – this huge company asked me to be its Representative for Romania and Bulgaria, on the Calling Card side, which meant sailing into the Black Sea wo meet the US Navy ships, travelling to Sofia, a lot of activity, using my mother’s two bedrooms flat as office and warehouse, all for the grand total of $250, raised after a lot of persuasion to the staggering $400…with retirement ahead, there are no benefits, nothing…it is a longer story, but if you can help get the mastodont to pay some dues, or have an idea how it can happen, let me know

As for my role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/realini-in-newsweek-participant-in.html

Some favorite quotes from To The Hermitage and other works

‘Fiction is infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating, noble, profound…There are many more dramas, climaxes, romantic fulfillment, twists, turns, gratified resolutions…Unlike reality, all of this you can experience without leaving the house or even getting out of bed…What's more, books are a form of intelligent human greatness, as stories are a higher order of sense…As random life is to destiny, so stories are to great authors, who provided us with some of the highest pleasures and the most wonderful mystifications we can find…Few stories are greater than Anna Karenina, that wise epic by an often foolish author…’
