If Not an Apology, at Least a “My Bad” by Larry Wilmore

In the context of recent clashes in Charlotsville, the ambiguous stands taken by the foolish leader of the free world, the protests surrounding controversial statues, the Black Lives Matter Movement, this is a cery relevant story.

It is both humorous and very serious, for it talks about the apology of the federal goverment, that has not arrived at the time when Larry Wilmore wrote it.
The very title explains what to expect and contains the jest of putting in the same sentence two apparently similar things:

-          „My Bad” and apology

This could also be an attempt to anticipate the text, which offers with jocularity a few ways out of the conudrum.
States in America have taken different approaches and they vote for different candidates, representing opposite values, as evident in the latest elections, where a fool is obsessed by a „great beautiful wall” and he demonizes various minorities, while the other was a competent, if not radiant woman...

-          “the vestiges of slavery are ever before African-American citizens...enduring pretextual traffic stops and other indignities.”

This is supposed to have been an excerpt from the apology of the state of New Jersey, to which the black community has responded:

-          What the fuck was that?

The author continues by saying that they might have added...”do you want fries with that”, but the tone is also serious.
An analysis of today’s America concludes that the population has changed a lot and there are many citizens that have arrived after slavery and bear no responsibility, along with black people who have no slave ancestors.
But the solutions offered are creative, satirical and quite often used by politicians for other purposes than apologizing...

the My Bad apology” goes down well with the „brothas” , we are told and it consists of dropping the My Bad in the middle of a different topic.
It is part of the style of the president elected one year ago, who looks like going down in history as the worst ever.

It used to be Harding, followed by Ulysses S. Grant, but the current one seems to me much worse than imagination would allow.
The guy apology comes next as a choice that a president would have to address the vile issue, without really dealing with it:

-           „the “guy” apology (where you dance around the subject and let the other person fill in the blanks in their own mind) is a wonderful choice.”

In this version, the presidnet would engage with a „so-called black leader” and keep refering to...”that shit, you know, uh” and then he does not even say a word, for his interlocutor is keen to respond...”you don’t even have to say it, man”

The absent minded apology reminds again of Trump, with his excessive lying and lack of concentration.
He is reported to be uninterested in most subjects, unless the staff insert in the material he has to read, homages to his sick, excessive ego.

The basent minded leader would pretend that he thought the apology was done a long time ago, that the two last presidents did it already.
The present clownish character keeps blaming his predecessor for all sorts of evil things, including stupid, false ones like the claim that he was not born in the USA, and tries to kill Obamacare, with an obssesive ardour.

The Irresponsible Celebrity Apology reminds one of Harvey Weinstein and the scandal he is involved in right now, with his alleged sexual harrasment of many actresses, from Angelina Jolie to Gwyneth Patrow.

In one alternative, the casual apology would regret if someone was offended, and the tearful option would involve acting, like the same mentioned leader, who one day feels for Puerto Rico and the next wants to abandon them to their fate, after the devastaing hurricane of recent weeks and the chaos it brought.
The „My opression is worse than your opression” would have women, who have suffered for longer than the slaves, involved in a game of who had it worse, which is not funny, but it seemes to be played even now:

-          „If we take down some of these statues, where would we stop?”

-          Well, if they were evil, they should not have a statue and must not be honored
