How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie is the definition of a classic, with more than thirty million copies, published in 1936, it is now ranked 1141st  on The Greatest Books of All time Site – many of the books listed there are reviewed on my blog https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/maybe-you-have-some-ideas-click-on-link.html

A look at How You Influence People in the age of The Orange Clown?

9 out of 10

This is one of the best-selling books of all time, and yet it is just 1141st on this new site which was analyzed in an article in The Economist, thus being vouchsafed for me, so we can draw the conclusion that it is no longer such a hot beano, or is it the contrary, even beyond the 1,000 mark, this still means something?

‘A 2013 Library of Congress survey ranked Carnegie's volume as the seventh most influential book in American history. How to Win Friends and Influence People was number eight on the list of "Top Check Outs Of All Time" by the New York Public Library’ and it has more than a million ratings on Goodreads, nevertheless…

-          It may feel that it is not for this age

First, we need to see the merits – incidentally, Harvard Professor Tal Ben-Shahar https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/02/happier-by-tal-ben-shahar.html had this mantra ‘be a merit finder, not a fault finder’ in his lectures, which have been the most popular course in the history of this Ivy League institution

The friends in the title are crucial, psychology studies have shown that the happiest people do not have wealth in common – just think of Orange Jesus, who is almost always grumpy, albeit this is a nut job anyway – they have strong bonds with friends and family, and I wish I had that, only I have no tie with the spouse

-          You should read The How of Happiness by Sonja Lyubomirsky

In this sublime work https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/the-how-of-happiness-by-sonja.html we have ‘Happiness Activity No 5: Nurturing Social Relationships-picking a relationship in need of strengthening and investing time and energy in heeling, cultivating affirming and enjoying it’ and Dale Carnegie agrees

If only that were possible…

Wait, it is, if you read this book, because it is exactly about how to Win Friends and Influence People, but if we are to look closer at this title, we may be puzzled, win friends as in get new ones, put the ones we have to the floor, and win the wrestling, judo, or some other competition, what does Dale Carnegie mean?

-          Just be nice to them!

It is oversimplifying it to the point of derision, but the author does insist on the fact that people like you to be polite – another pause, how come they vote for the likes of the Orange Felon then? -talk about what is on interest to them, such as their persona, not go on about yourself, use encouraging, faltering language

The nadir these days would be this Orange Fool that has been the leader of the free world (again!) for the last eleven days or so, and he is the epitome of rudeness, vileness and so much more, so the question here is How You Influence People in the Orange Era of the absolute idiot, with this paradigm change

You find the funniest definition of paradigm shift in Vernon God Little https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/02/vernon-god-little-by-dbc-pierre.html by DBC Pierre, and now it is about bullying, lying, boasting, a cringe show to my mind, and such a bliss for billions of fans of this moron

About a more authoritive book on How To Influence People – that would be Influence by Robert Cialdini with the six principles he has identified Reciprocity, Respect for Authority – more and more humans want dictators – Social Proof, Liking, Consistency and Scarcity, used in marketing and sales, often with disastrous effects

From Influence https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/02/influence-by-robert-cialdini.html we find about some extraordinary situations, such as mass suicides, one of them happened in Guyana, wherein Respect for Authority was taken to an extreme, something that was seen in The Milgram Experiment, conducted by Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram in 1961, which measured the willingness of study participants to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts conflicting with their personal conscience12. Participants were instructed to administer seemingly painful electric shocks to a helpless victim, demonstrating the human tendency to obey commands issued by authority, the flip side would be…

Thomas Mann – he has a short story in which the notion of friends and love is seen from a different angle, which is that in real life, you have no such things, friends and love belong to art, literature, in reality, when you test it, your friend is not there, love dies away…

Now for my standard closing of the note with a question, and invitation – maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more than a million dollars with this https://realinibarzoi.blogspot.com/2025/01/maybe-you-have-some-ideas-click-on-link.html – as it is, this is a unique technique, which we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not know how to get the befits from it, other than the exercise per se

There is also the small matter of working for AT&T – this huge company asked me to be its Representative for Romania and Bulgaria, on the Calling Card side, which meant sailing into the Black Sea wo meet the US Navy ships, travelling to Sofia, a lot of activity, using my mother’s two bedrooms flat as office and warehouse, all for the grand total of $250, raised after a lot of persuasion to the staggering $400…with retirement ahead, there are no benefits, nothing…it is a longer story, but if you can help get the mastodont to pay some dues, or have an idea how it can happen, let me know

As for my role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/realini-in-newsweek-participant-in.html

Some favorite quotes from To The Hermitage and other works

‘Fiction is infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating, noble, profound…There are many more dramas, climaxes, romantic fulfillment, twists, turns, gratified resolutions…Unlike reality, all of this you can experience without leaving the house or even getting out of bed…What's more, books are a form of intelligent human greatness, as stories are a higher order of sense…As random life is to destiny, so stories are to great authors, who provided us with some of the highest pleasures and the most wonderful mystifications we can find…Few stories are greater than Anna Karenina, that wise epic by an often foolish author…’
