today, Tomorrow by Alberto Moravia another note on the same film is here http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/03/ieri-oggi-domani-aka-yesterday-today.html

This is a
chef d’oeuvre, amusing, satirical, exuberant, dynamic, it is the quintessential
entertainment that will keep you watching, with extraordinary characters,
superb performances from Sophia Loren who is Adelina Sbaratti in the first of
three parts, Marcelo Mastroiani, who is the husband, Carmine Sbaratti
What makes
this so much more exhilarating in this realm is the fact that things look so
familiar, to the point where we have a repeat of what is happening in the
movie, only without all that charm, and decades later, because we have had that
joke which said that the end of the world will come later for us, since we are
fifty, or a one hundred years behind…that was in the communist days, maybe it
is less now
Adelina and
her spouse are in a perpetual conflict with the authorities, and we see them
hiding the furniture and most (actually all) of what they have, every time the
inspector comes, and then they enlist the community to bring those back, as
soon as the peril of having them confiscated has passed…
They have
very strong bonds (incidentally, the happiest people in the world do not have a
big fortune, but they display strong connections with family and friends,
research has showed) and when Adelina is finally imprisoned, they will have a
tax introduced, so that they pay for her release from jail
This is a
belated spoiler alert, warning, disclaimer – do not read this, it is not
relevant, most likely it will veer off into whatever comes to mind, and you
would be so much better informed and entertained if you go to the IMDB site,
and click on the metascore link, where they give you extracts from the New York
Times, Washington Post and other prestigious publications, which have looked at
the film
The
narrative has reminded me of our own practices and habits – very rich ghouls
have broken the law, sometimes got indicted, but somehow managed to run away to
all sorts of places – one went to…Costa Rica – and then while the law tried to
get to them, the felonies would be deleted, because of the status limitations
At the pool
downtown, we used to have one particular client, representative for a whole
set, who had been the manager of Bancorex, the state bank that gave loans to
private individuals, after the 1989 revolution – revolt that will come again
in focus, at the end of these lines, for
I have now a fixed ending, boasting of my heroics
So this
ruffian used his position of power, giving away the money of the, well, people,
to gangsters and crooks (think Trump) knowing full well that they will never
return a penny (maybe a few pennies will see the coffers of the bank) and then
he will have a cut of this simple scheme of distributing millions
At another
level, there is this neighbor I have, with a pool, luxury SUV and all, whose
family had been in business as…state employees, and therefore, the only way to
get all these assists would be for them to save all the paychecks for about…six
hundred years, those working in the public sector have to publish income and
property
Another
case comes from the same sauna of the Downtown club, where this doctor is the
head of the union at a major hospital, a man of property, he has land and
houses in expensive neighborhoods, and he is a Putin admirer, or as stupid as
they get, trying to explain to him what the deal is, he just does not get it
You could
get Chili Palmer from the miraculous Get Shorty http://realini.blogspot.com/2020/04/get-shorty-by-elmore-leonard-aka.html to explain it to him – Chili Palmer
has this fabulous line ‘I am the one telling you the way it is’- and he would
still embrace the Butcher from the Kremlin, because he is vile
We tried
telling him ‘look, you say you are upset that realtors call your cellular, but
Putin, when he sends his tanks, they do not call on the phone, they just crash
with the tanks through your wall, and ask the keys to all the other properties,
how is it possible you do not get that’, but this he may see, it is just that
he is god damn selfish
All these
Inglorious Bastards care for is themselves, and they admire the likes of Putin
and Trump because they identify with the beasts, they would like to have used
the same ruthlessness to get the same riches, albeit Trump claims he is so
wealthy, when in fact he is not, now for Putin, he may well be the richest
human
Trump is in
fact on trial for the frauds he committed, and that is such a disgusting and
catastrophic narrative, because if this idiot becomes the leader of the free
world, again, next year, then we are fucked, he would throw Ukraine down the
drain, and give the rest of this art of Europe to the would be czar in the same
package
Dumb as he
is, he has taken to saying that ‘Hezbollah is very smart’, just like he had
showed the same awe for other dictators and monsters, and this is because he is
angry with Benjamin Netanyahu http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/08/the-netanyahus-account-of-minor-and.html who has called Biden to
congratulate him for the victory in the elections that the sicko Trump) keeps
claiming that he won…
Now for a
question, and invitation – maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more
than a million dollars with this http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/02/unique-in-world.html?q=unique+in+the+world – as it is, this is a unique technique, which
we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make
lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not
know how to get the befits from it, other than the exercise per se
As for my
role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/realini-in-newsweek-participant-in.html
From To The
Heritage:
‘Fiction is
infinitely preferable to real life...As long as you avoid the books of Kafka or
Beckett, the everlasting plot of fiction has fewer futile experiences than the
careless plot of reality...Fiction's people are fuller, deeper, cleverer, more
moving than those in real life…Its actions are more intricate, illuminating,
noble, profound…There are many more dramas, climaxes, romantic fulfillment,
twists, turns, gratified resolutions…Unlike reality, all of this you can
experience without leaving the house or even getting out of bed…What's more,
books are a form of intelligent human greatness, as stories are a higher order
of sense…As random life is to destiny, so stories are to great authors, who
provided us with some of the highest pleasures and the most wonderful
mystifications we can find…Few stories are greater than Anna Karenina, that
wise epic by an often foolish author…’
‚parturiunt
montes, nascetur ridiculus mus’
“the Meaning
of Life...Well, it's nothing very special. Try and be nice to people, avoid
eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try
and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.”
